Faith

Sometimes you just have to have faith and believe in your training to bring you through the tough times.  A lesson my body proved to me again!  My tempo run this week was fast and powerful, recovery run felt slow and comfortable, and long run unbelievable.
My 10 mile tempo run felt great with a 7:35 mpm pace in hot conditions.  I didn’t plan on running this fast, but the moment was right, and the body was ready to be pushed again.  My recovery runs have felt easy, but too fast at 8:15 mpm pace.  I'm not sure what’s going on here, but I need to dial it back to get the benefit from this type of run.  My long run I made a deal with myself that I needed at least 20 miles if I was going to pursue my next race – I did 30.  My mind was holding me back, but my body remembered exactly what to do and took over.  Everything was in sync, my pace felt comfortable, body strong, and felt great after the 30 mile mark.  I could have done more but didn’t want to push it too much with so many light weeks prior to this.  My total for the week was 60 miles which is twice what I ran the past few weeks.
Last night I went out for a 5 miler in the dark and it was incredible - No HRM, music, or watch.  I just got lost in the moment of hearing myself breath as my muscles responded to the demand.  It is such an awesome feeling when you’re in shape, and the feeling of working your body is as natural as breathing.
This next week I will get a chance for some runs along the beach in soft sand and ocean breeze.  Can’t wait for some sun on these white legs!  Bring on spring break.

I am gonna assume ultra running is like tri's when it comes to periodization. You base, build, build again but harde, taper, then recover. Its good to hear the recovery went well and your baack to a quick base build before you get ready to build for your next race.

I LOVE when I go out with any gadgets and just ENJOY a bike or run for the heck of it.

Great Post Thomas. Last night was my first run out in the dark (at a track, but in the dark nonetheless). Running in the dark is an awesome experience. Wow, that is an awesome 10 miler. Sometimes our bodies just take over and God gives us the awesome power to go go go with no holding back. 30 miles? someday for me. Wishing you well with your runs as always. God Bless and keep you strong.

I’m not sure what it is called, but something like a sense memory for the body. After hard physical work and a shock for the body, the body will remember the suffering and build stronger for it in case should there be a next time.

Enjoy those bodily wonders.

Sounds like somebody might be peaking. Nice! You have worked hard, your body adapted and you are definitely in great shape. Keep up the good work. Have a great spring break. We went to Hawaii in search of sun and found it.

Once again I am in awe of your running ability and mileage! :) You throw around 20 like it's no big deal. And now the beach! Ohh my envy ... :)

Love the excitement! Great post it seems everything is clicking for you right now.

You better get that mileage up before too long though. Ultrarunners are not supposed to feel fresh on their runs. =)

I was caught in the moment with you, everything sounds so in sync with your running. I too love to just be free of all the gadgets and fade into the cadence of my breathing and rhythm of my body. Great post!
