November Already

OMG – November, leaves falling, cool temps, and dark by 6. Where has time gone! When your day stays compacted with activities ranging from work to family to running and gym time, I shouldn’t be surprised that the year is almost over. Soon, all my running blogger friends out there will be posting next year’s race agenda. I have my eye on a few races, but now my focus is on TX in Feb for some retribution at the Rocky Raccoon 100M.

My training is ahead of schedule, and need to stay healthy during the holiday season while pushing my body to the next level.
My easy week ended with 47 miles in the bank and a lot of weight training and cycling time. This past week I topped out at 65 miles including a 5 hour long run. It was a hard week physically because I got carried away on the climber at the gym after a 12 mile tempo run and got a bad cramp in my right calve. I could feel my calves starting to cramp-up after 45 min on the climber but I wanted to feel the burn just a little longer when my right calve said enough and knotted up. It took a few minutes for it to relax enough before I could figure out how I could gracefully get off the machine without drawing too much attention. The next two days my calves where so sore, but had to get my long run in before I missed my window. At first I told myself don’t be surprised if I don’t hit my mark, but as my long run went on, the better my calves felt and was pleasantly surprised I hit my mark.

This week is another hard week with total mileage scheduled to be in the high 60s to low 70s with back-to-back semi-long runs this weekend (24 on sat and 24 on sun).

Thanks for your visit and encouraging comment on my blog. This injury has been so frustrating for me, but I am glad to be out there running again...even if it is minimal mileage and turtle speed. I am trying to learn patience!

Great job on your ultra distance running!

glad it sounds like your calf is doing ok - it was probably just complaining about all the hard-work you were putting it through! hope this week of training is going well; your weekend runs look intimidating!

Thank you Thomas for the encouraging comment on my blog. I am in awe of your mileage and toughness to keep pushing your body like you do! It is inspiring! I noticed you are retired Navy. My husband served in the Navy an was stationed on the USS Iowa and then the Theodore Roosevelt. He was on board the Iowa when the turret exploded and served during Desert Storm on the Roosevelt. I know it might sound corny but I am a proud Navy wife and love our service men and women. I look forward to reading about your training and success.

Yes, the awful, sinful holiday season is in sight!!! Scares the hell out of me. Sorry to hear about that cramp; the can super hurt. I get them when I do "too" much.

Have fun training for RR.

Looks like you are putting in a lot of great training. You are probably already doing this, bu I think icebaths and self massage are wonderful in terms of recovery aids. Good luck!
